The Checklist

I like to make lists. Sometimes I like to make lists of things that I've already finished, just so I can check them off. Completing things is just the best. That being said...

Kitchen Island- CHECK
Cast-iron accent wall - CHECK

We've got other things on the checklist, but I'm pretty stoked about these two. Zach has worked so hard to make our new house feel like home. He works his regular full time job at a granite shop and then works on projects for Fuse or our house in the evenings and on weekends. He got our new kitchen island done just in time to host his family for Thanksgiving, and it was perfect. It served as a gathering place... we cooked around it, we ate around it, we gawked at it (because it's gorgeous y'all - I'm more impressed with it every single time I look at it).

From the moment Zach brought these freshly milled pieces of mesquite home from a local mill, I knew this thing was going to bust out the top of the awesome scale. Then we enlisted the help of Zach's dad to get the mesquite top perfected (thanks Glenn!). Please note the ever important supervisory role that I've taken on here, hands on hips and all.

And the finished product blows my mind, I just love it. And if you don't, well... we probably can't be friends then. Just kidding, just kidding - it's fine, everybody has their own preferences, I guess. I would be willing to bet that Zach can custom make you something you do like though, go ahead and send in an order and we'll see what we can do for you. ;)

Are you wondering about item #2 on my checklist? The Cast-iron wall? You can see it in the background of the pictures above, but here's a closer look. In case you were wondering, it's awesome too.

We're so excited to have these things checked off of our list. Here's a few other things we'll be working on getting checked off soon.
*Peg boards for a local CrossFit gym
*Several tic tac toe boards for a wine room/gift shop
*A bench for a kitchen table (Melanie, if you're reading this - we promise we'll have it ready by your birthday!)

One Thing, Two Things, Lots of New Things

It's been a good solid 5 months since we've blogged... we apologize to the two - three people whom we may have disappointed (hi mom!). But, we've got some new exciting things going on. First and foremost, we moved! So we've been busy packing, unpacking and buying our first home in Fredericksburg, Texas. It's been a rollercoaster couple of months, but we're getting a little settled and have had some time to work on a few projects. We're hoping to get things geared up and crank out some new projects. A lot of what we've been working on are new things for our new home (so selfish of us, I know), but we are ready and happy to take any of your custom orders. Here are some of the new things we've recently finished up.

Our First "Real" Order

We just completed a custom ordered pantry shelf, and I feel like it was out first "real" order - so it's exciting. We've done some small decorative stuff for friends and built larger items for immediate family members, but this one just felt like... oh... okay, maybe it's not just our friends and family appeasing us by ordering things. Granted, this order is for a friend and co-worker of my Mom, but it's exciting that someone at least once removed from our immediate circle of family and friends looked at our website and was interested in what we are doing.

It was fun going through the whole process, brainstorming ideas to project completion. We got a general idea of what the shelf needed to be and then Zach got to run with it. He always comes up with a couple different options and we send over sketches. This piece will serve as a kitchen pantry shelf and we're really happy with how it turned out. The frame is made of steel flats and the shelves are douglas fir, stained with a custom mixture of wood finishes (Minwax Honey and Gunstock).

A BIG thank you to Ree for the order; we hope you love your new shelf. Can't wait to get it delivered to you!
